PORT AUTHORITY TO LEAD D.C. FLY-IN DELEGATION TO CAPITOL HILL
Public-Private Delegation Brings Agenda with Expansion, Modernization on Agenda
HEATH –The Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority will lead a contingent of public and private officials to Washington, D.C. to meet with key members and staff of the Ohio Congressional Delegation. The day-long event is set for Wednesday, May 17.
Representatives Pat Tiberi, Steve Stivers, and Joyce Beatty are among the members of Congress on the schedule. Meetings in the offices of U.S. Senators Brown and Portman as well as the office of Representative Tim Ryan are also set. A contingent of local government officials is also expected to attend a briefing with the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
The purpose of the day is to better acquaint Ohio’s Congressional Delegation with the status of key military work at the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center and ask for the Delegation to spotlight the value and importance of the Aerospace Center to the nation’s aerospace and defense industry.
“Preventative medicine for jobs is the best description of what we do on Capitol Hill,” said Port Authority President and CEO Rick Platt. “With an increased focus on manufacturing and the Midwest, it’s the right time to be in D.C. talking about expansion and modernization of the defense-related work done at the Aerospace Center.
Officials from major employers at the Port Authority’s Aerospace Center campus—Boeing, Bionetics, and Defense Engineering Services Group—are attending along with local leaders, including City of Heath Mayor Mark Johns, Licking County Commissioner Duane Flowers, and Licking County Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer McDonald.
The fly-in is organized and funded by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority. Look for Twitter updates that day with the hashtag #HNLCPA and on the Port Authority Facebook page, Facebook.com/OhioPort.
