NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR PORT AUTHORITY
TFM Magazine Headline Reads “HNLCPA Shows How Wireless Works”
HEATH, OHIO – Saying, "While the HNLCPA is a government entity.
. .it operates like a private company," national facilities
magazine, TFM, recognized the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port
Authority in its October 2004 edition under the headline “HNLCPA
Shows How Wireless Works.” The Tech to Watch column called the
Authority’s use of wireless network technology “impressive,”
“ambitious,” and cost-effective.
TFM, an acronym for Today’s Facility Manager, is a monthly trade
publication considered the premier national resource for
corporate building owners and facility executives.
The Port Authority is property manager for the 350-acre Central
Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center (COATC) in Heath which
includes The Base, property from the former Newark Air Force
Base. In 2003, the Port Authority installed a wireless network
and a utility monitoring system as a strategy for facility
management improvements.
The Authority’s five on-site utility systems are monitored 24/7
and made available for personnel to review online via the web.
An alert system, web cameras, and weather station compliment
the network. The systems, combined, were installed for $30,000,
equivalent to 3˘ per square foot.
“The Port Authority prides itself on balancing the desire to be
cutting edge and creative in use of technology with the need to
watch our pennies,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick
Platt. “It’s particularly gratifying to get third party
validation of our team’s hard work in facility management from
such a nationally-respected source.”
This recognition is a hat trick for the Port Authority with
write-ups in three national publications this month alone. In
addition to the TFM article, the National Association of
Installation Developers (NAID) is set to publish a guide to
successful base closings around the country which will include
a review of the Newark Air Force Base closing and the
e-Newsletter for Davis Instruments Weather Club, in its October
edition, recognized the Port Authority for its creative use of
a weather station.
