At the invitation of the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority, State Senator Joy Padgett toured The Base and
got better acquainted with the people and work of the major tenants here. Her visit began with briefings from Port Authority, Boeing, and Bionetics officials. She toured the four-story underground laboratories of the AF Primary Standards Laboratory as well.
A 2005 review of personnel records found that in addition to the Base being located in the 18th Congressional District, 55% of personnel live in the 18th District.
Padgett provided a brief interview with Base Radio during her visit.
The invitation was part of the Port Authority's ongoing
caucus-building strategy aimed at increasing knowledge among federal, state, and local officials about the value and impact
of the COATC. Zack Space, Democrat candidate in the 18th Congressional district, is expected to tour as well.
