February 12, 2009
A delegation representing the public-private partnership that epitomizes The Base
flew, for the day, to Washington D.C. The contingent met with key members and staff of Ohio's Congressional delegation.
The focus of the visit was to discuss planned infrastructure improvements at The Base as well as brief the delegation on the various
workforce development intiatives underway here. Meetings took place with Congressmen Zack Space and Steve Austria as well as staff
of Senators Voinovich and Brown and Congressman Tiberi, Schmidt, and Driehaus.
This is the third year of this effort. The day gave chance for Licking County to update members or, for many of their staff members,
acquaint them for the first time with the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center--its impact and its key workloads.
The participants from Licking County were:
Mike Emmelhainz, Boeing
Mike Cadenhead, Bionetics
Al Bonacci, Atlantic Inertial Systems
Brad Feightner, Licking Co. Commissioner
Richard Waugh, Mayor, City of Heath
Cheri Hottinger, Licking Co. Chamber
Ron Sheldon, Port Authority Board
Tim Weisert, Port Authority Board
Bill Wright, Port Authority
Rick Platt, Port Authority
The day was organized and funded by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority as part of its caucus-building
strategy aimed at increasing knowledge among federal, state, and local officials about the value and
impact of the COATC.
