It's been more than 10 years ago that Newark AFB learned of its pending closure and more than 40 years since the base's newspaper, On Target, was first published. From a complete collection of On Target newspapers, the Port Authority's Bill Wright created a month-by-month look at The Base through the years.

15 Years Ago - September 1990
POW/MIA flag flew at AGMC for recognition. Raising the POW/MIA flag along with the American flag on the anniversary of the Air Force, Newark AFB military joined others across the nation in paying tribute to these brave individuals during the annual remembrance celebration.

20 Years Ago - September 1985
AGMC Open House attracts 3,500 visitors. A beautiful day, lots of exhibits and activities kept large crowds entertained during the combined Newark AFS and the Licking County Airport Open House. Some of the activities included, hot air balloons, aircraft rides, car show judging, skywriting and aerobatics.

25 Years Ago - September 1980
New Chief takes over in supply. Charles T. "Terry" Gallagher is the new chief of Suppy and Transportation, succeeding Maj. Stewart Erholm who moved on to a new assignment at Wright-Patterson AFB.

30 Years Ago - September 1975
A Joint Logistics Chiefs study recommends the addition of more workloads at Newark Air Force Station. The new workloads are the LN-15G gyros and accelerometers used on the Army's Mohawk observation aircraft, the LN-12C inertial measurement units and the 2171 displacement gyros used by the Navy.

35 Years Ago - September 1970
Oldtimers League Champs Again! NAFS Oldtimers recaptured the softball league title this year after bowing to Roper in 1969, the only time they had given up the championship in seven years.

Great prices for a cookout! September 1970
Ad for Star Super Duper showed sirloin steak for $1.19 per pound and T-bone steak for $1.39 per pound.

40 Years Ago - September 1965
Clubhouse, restaurant construction begins. Work began on a new building which will provide an addition to the existing restaurant, and space for an NCO and Officers Club. The new construction will provide 8000 square feet of additional space, of which 4000 square feet will be used as daytime restaurant space.
