A
time capsule buried in 1976 as part of a Bicentennial celebration has been
found right smack in the middle of the West Parking Lot Reconstruction Project. The time capsule, marked by a stone marker,
bears instructions to open in the year 2026.
However, the capsule can’t remain where it is because of the new parking
lot. After weighing opinions, the Port
Authority decided the risk of loss of the contents outweighed the desire to
adhere to the wishes transmitted in 1976.

A
major project to reconstruct the west side parking lot is set to kick off June
21st. In hopes to ease the
disruption, the OnTheBase.com Project Status Report will include the WeatherCam pointed at the parking lot project throughout
the construction period, a thermometer to guage the
progress, and regular news updates.
